The Department of Corrections supervises more offenders in the state of Washington than can be seated in the Seattle Kingdome.

In 1987, drug offenders accounted for four percent of the prison population. By 1993 they reached 25 percent of the overall prison population.

In December of 1996, of the 12,669 total inmates, 24.8% are there for drug offenses.

In this 1995-97 Biennium, we will spend $ 904 Million on operating and capital costs.
