Medical Pot Curb Backed

A City Council committee agreed Tuesday to recommend to the full
council that smoking of medicinal marijuana in public be severely
restricted, but the panel forwarded the matter with more questions
than answers.
Under Proposition 215, passed by voters in 1996, it is legal to use
marijuana as medicine with a doctor's approval.
The council's law and legislation committee members tentatively
supported a ban on smoking pot within 100 feet of another person or
public access building, and within 1,000 feet of a school, park or
other open or recreational space.
Committee members, however, asked for more information for the council
about the effects of secondhand marijuana smoke at shorter distances.
