A letter from David's daughter to Governor Locke

Dear Sir:

My father, David Miles is currently encarcerated in one of your correctional facilities. I understand your position as a state authority figure, but please, you never really understand the hardships, pain, and suffering, families everywhere, not just mine face. My family wants nothing from this state, government, or even the people responsible for destroying a good man's life and his family. My father, David Miles does NOT under any circumstances deserve to be in prision for being a good human being and helping a person in need. You people are always talking about saving the youth, and preserving their saftey and so on, but you never get into the kids' lives and have to see what we have to go through everyday as children. Now taking away a childs support, especially in there teen years, is probably the reason for most suicides, drug uses, homocides and other violent and juvenille acts that occur with our youth today.

You will never get drugs out of our society, they've been ther for centuries, and I don't think that throwing a harmless person in prison is going to solve this problem. If you would focus more on values within the home and the importance of a family, instead of trying to tear them apart all the time, you would probably have a lot less children in juvy for such horrible crimes. Why do you condemn a God-given plant that comes out of the groundthe way society does? I feel that my Dad was a good supporter. I had everything that I wanted, and I didn't even deserve most of it, but I was well taken care of, my whole family was. And I feel that if my Dad worked himself almost to paralizeation, so my family had what we needed and wanted, that he should be able to come home a smoke a joint. He never came home and beat us, just 1 time he tried to to help a man who came to him.

Now tell me sir, what would you do if you came home to find out that your wife, son or someone who meant the sun, moon, and stars to you, had tried to help a soul that came to them claiming that they had cancer, and your loved one ended up in prision for a good deed? What would you do? I know that this doesn't mean much to to you or whoever might read this, but as a human being, please consider the real victims, the families. If you take a childs support from under them, they will fall, and taking away all these chilrens fathers and mother, you are just setting us up for failure. It takes a strong soul to keep from falling, and I refuse to, but there are others who need their loved ones. I am not asking you to let everyone out of prision, just the ones who need to be, like my Daddy, and many more.

The laws are wrong and anyone who doesn't hurt another, or steal, or detroy other people and their property, doesn't deserve to be in jail. And you wonder why all the prisions are so full. Stop locking up Americas good citizens. I ask you again, let my Daddy out.

Sincerly,

Rachel Miles
