Fortunately we don't have to overturn a constitutional amendment. But we are stuck in the same position of having to bypass the state legislature to restore sanity to our laws. The way to do this is to go directly to the people with a Citizen's Initiative!
In a 1994 Parade magazine poll over 75 percent of the callers were in favor of legalizing marijuana. In an NBC poll done earlier that same year over 50 percent of the callers were in favor of legalization of ALL Currently Illicit Drugs! The time is right to take this issue directly to the people!
Even though we did not get the marijuana initiative on the ballot in 1996 many good things came out of the effort. One was the formation of W.H.E.N., the Washington Hemp Education Network. W.H.E.N. goal is to educate lawmakers and citizens about hemp.
The Initiative Drive also inspired the establishment of the Washington State Marijuana Initiative HOTLINE: (206) 548-8043
This number will be here for the duration. It was set up to act as a clearinghouse for information about marijuana legalization issues in Washington State. Call today!!!
And finally, the Initiative drive inspired the formation of the Hemp Initiative Projects of Washington State (HIP-WS)
HIP-WS is working to ensure that in 1997 we will be well organized so we can get a Marijuana Initiative on the ballot in 1998. Our success depends on you! Sign up today!
